December 24, 2014 Dear Dean Zhu, I write to share an exciting opportunity for your faculty and students. On June 15-17, 2015, Washington University Professor Lee Epstein and University of Michigan College of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts Dean Andrew D. Martinwill teach their annual workshop on Empirical Legal Scholarship at Washington University in St. Louis. I write today to invite you to encourage your colleagues to attend the workshop. As you are likely aware, empirical research has become a key component of the law-arguments based on data that have become an everyday part of legal practice, scholarship, and teaching. Professor Epstein and Dean Martin’s workshop provides a unique opportunity for your faculty and students to broaden their understanding of empirical work in law. They will receive the formal training necessary to design, conduct, and assess empirical studies and to use statistical software to analyze and manage data. Please note that your faculty and students do not need any prior background in statistics or empirical research to enroll in the workshop. Finally, because the workshop draws faculty and students from all over the world, it provides an excellent forum for scholars and budding scholars to interact and develop future collaborations. Please feel free to distribute this letter, and the attached brochure, to your colleagues. Registration information for the workshop is available at:http://cerl.wustl.edu/training/cels15.php. If you or your colleagues have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or Lee Epstein, at epstein@wustl.edu. With best wishes, Nancy Staudt Dean Howard and Caroline Cayne Professor of Law |
