The United States Constitution guarantees the right to the free exercise of religion and the right to be free from religious establishments. But the scope and meaning of religious liberty protections have undergone changes during the course of American history, particularly in the last fifty years. In this lecture, Professor Inazu will trace some of the more recent changes and address some of the legal, political, and cultural factors that have contributed to them.
