On the evening of June 28, 2021, the Intellectual Property Salon, the second session of 2021 and the Frontiers of Law Lecture, titled “The Basic Principles and Strategic Application of the Intellectual Property Rights System,” hosted by the Institute of Economic Law, was successfully held in Room 206, Building 5, Library, Zhijiang Campus.

The lecture was chaired by Prof. He Huawen from the Guanghua Law School, with Prof. Zhang Ping from Peking University as the distinguished guest speaker. Prof. Li Yongming from the Guanghua Law School and Dr. Wei Lizhou, a lecturer at the Guanghua Law School, were invited to join the discussion. Prof. Zhang Ping shared on the topic of “The Basic Principles and Strategic Application of the Intellectual Property Rights System.” The lecture also attracted young intellectual property teachers and lawyers from outside the university, and the students present were attentive and enthusiastic.

Prof. Zhang Ping began by introducing the social context of China's current intellectual property rights system. On one hand, China is currently transitioning from a major importer of intellectual property to a major creator of intellectual property, and in the future, it aims to become a major user of intellectual property, necessitating the construction of a new system and strategic framework. On the other hand, China emphasizes independent innovation in core industrial fields, strengthens the leading role of intellectual property protection and innovation-driven development, and ultimately aims to build China's innovation system to achieve a high level of scientific and technological self-reliance.

Subsequently, Prof. Zhang Ping, using case studies, discussed various aspects including the basic principles of the intellectual property system, the market mechanisms of the intellectual property system, the spiral upgrade of intellectual property protection, and strategic applications.

Prof. Zhang Ping emphasized that the intellectual property system should not forget its original purpose, respect the market, and keep in mind the purpose of the intellectual property system.

Subsequently, during the discussion segment, Prof. Li Yongming shared his views on the present and future of intellectual property rights and engaged in a discussion with Prof. Zhang Ping on issues such as the intangibility of intellectual property. Dr. Wei Lizhou had an in-depth exploration with Prof. Zhang Ping on the conflicts between intellectual property rights and property rights. The students seized the opportunity to actively ask questions to Prof. Zhang Ping. Prof. Zhang provided detailed answers to the questions posed by the questioners. The three-hour academic feast came to a successful close, with the students present gaining a great deal from the experience.
