As the summer ended and the cool autumn wind came to Hangzhou, Guanghua Law School on Yuelun Mountain welcomed 213 postgraduate students. On September 21st, opening ceremony of 2022 Guanghua Law School postgraduate students was held in the hall of Zhijiang Campus. Leaders, faculty, postgraduate freshmen and a special guest attended. Prof. Huo Haihong, Vice Dean of Guanghua Law School, served as the host of the opening ceremony.
With the solemn national anthem, the opening ceremony began. Prof. Hu Ming，Executive Vice Dean of Guanghua Law School, extended his warm welcome to all the postgraduate students joining this ancient but also vibrant campus. Sentences from Confucian Analects were quoted in his speech as saying that the virtuous is free from anxieties, the wise is free from doubts and the bold is free from fear, which is dean’s expectation on new students to be wise, kind and brave. Hu Ming said he expects and believes that students would gain wisdom on the Yuelun Mountain where Zhijiang Campus locates. Finally, Hu Ming delivered his best wishes to all students with wisdom, kindness and strength.
Hangzhou is the capital of the Internet. The Hangzhou Court of the Internet is the first pilot court specializing in handling of internet-related disputes. This year marks the fifth anniversary of its founding. Hong Xuejun, Dean of the Hangzhou Court of the Internet, the special guest invited first shared the history and achievements the court, then introduced the disciplinary advantages of Zhejiang University in digital rule of law. He called on students to make good use of school’s resources and devote themselves to studying digital rule of law. Besides, combined with his own practical experience, he shared three points of law learning: pay attention to the cultivation of values, the training of methodology and t case study on judicial cases.
Distinguished Professor Ge Hongyi, director of China Research Centre for Local Governance and Local Development of Rule of Law of Zhejiang University, as teachers’ representative, reminded students that learning legal knowledge is only the primary stage of becoming an excellent legal talent, and what’s more important is to have the self-consciousness of applying legal knowledge in the service of human liberation. The freshmen faced the severest task is how to improve their abilities to make correct choices under the complex and difficult challenging legal reality. At last, he wished students would make choices worthy of their legal lives in the future.
Students’ representatives Zhao Xinrui and Chen Xu gave their speeches respectively. Zhao Xinrui quoted the motto of Guanghua Law School and pointed out although different people have different life paths, they share one same thing, that is, wherever we are, we should remember the glory and responsibility of being a ZJUer. Chen Xu elaborated on the scientific nature of law and mentioned that students should master a learning method that meets the requirements of the law discipline and realize that a law student in the new era should shoulder the responsibility of the country and the mission of this era.
The opening ceremony ended with the chorus of the school song of Zhejiang University.
