The Theme of “Resource Collection and Usage of Information in Library”

     At 9a.m. October 11, the Library of Zhejiang University Guanghua Law School organized a lecture with the theme of “Resource Collection and Usage of Information in Library” in Room 206, Building 5. It is one of the beginning for freshmen and has been brought into the latest courses of law science.
     The main content of this lecture is to introduce distribution and the usage of the library’s information resource and to explain the applying method of law database so as to facilitate students to make better use of various resources.
     At the beginning of the lecture, Mrs. He Lingqiao, as the host, gave a special lecture with the usage of resources collected in the library as the main content, introduced the studying resources in the library in detail from five aspects including the guideline on the inter-library circulation of books, retrieval of the law information resource, digital resource and points needing attention for students to use the resources collected in the library. In addition, she noted that all the teachers and staff will spare no efforts to improve the service level, hardware facilities, website construction, interlibrary circulation and other aspects to meet the needs of the students and to provide more convenient conditions for the students to use the resources of the library.
     Then, the other four teachers, Chen Xiang, Chen Lu, Zheng Xiaona and Liu Bin, brought the special lecture on the utility of database, introduced four databases of Westlaw, LexisNexis, Heinonline, Beck-online used frequently from such aspects as the common retrieval methods and the retrieval in the specific items of journal papers, statute laws and cases. With the on-site operation, the four teachers taught the detailed operating methods of the four databases to the students participating in the lecture who listened to the explanation of the teachers and wrote down every step as well for their own proficient use of the databases in the future.
     The two-hour lectures was soon over, and in this lecture, the newly enrolled students had a better understanding of all the resources in the library of the school law,  the lecture enabled the students to find the information on the papers, to look up the studying resource needed and to know of the latest research achievement and trends. It also made the boring information retrieval easy and orderly. After the lecture, the students expressed that this lecture provided a convenient way of resource usage for their study and research in the future.
     In addition, in order to know the students’ understanding status of the resources collected in the library, the library designed a questionnaire specially and took the sampling survey for 50 students to serve the students better in the future.
