From June 30 to July 5, 2025, the Thailand International Organization Summer Camp, organized by Guanghua Law School of Zhejiang University, unfolded successfully in Bangkok. A 20-member delegation comprising faculty and students embarked on a six-day journey, aiming to explore legal practices in Southeast Asia and gain in-depth insights into the operational mechanisms of international organizations. With the theme of “foreign-related legal practice and engagement with international institutions,” the program seamlessly integrated academic rigor with practical exposure, marking a new and significant stride in China's efforts to cultivate globally competent legal professionals.

On July 1, the delegation visited the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), a pivotal regional platform dedicated to fostering cooperation, sustainable development, and social progress.An on-site thematic seminar was held, where ESCAP officials elaborated on the agency's core mandates, key areas of work, and strategies for project implementation. They highlighted notable achievements and future plans in sustainable development, regional economic integration, and climate action. The participants engaged in lively and thought-provoking discussions, with a particular focus on peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region. This interaction not only enabled them to form a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of the UN’s practical role in regional governance but also enriched their academic perspectives, offering valuable inspiration for their future studies.

On July 2, the group toured the UNESCO Bangkok Office, an institution that plays an indispensable role in advancing education, science, culture, and communication across Southeast Asia. Discussions centered on the implementation of international conventions related to cultural heritage protection, with experts detailing regional initiatives in cultural heritage surveying, restoration, preservation, and transmission. The delegation also delved into pressing global issues such as intellectual property challenges in the digital era, educational equity, and the protection of the right to education for vulnerable groups. These exchanges deepened the participants' comprehension of international governance mechanisms and reinforced their sense of responsibility as future legal professionals tasked with addressing global issues.

On July 3, the delegation visited Hancheng Law Offices, a leading legal institution in Thailand with extensive expertise in China-Thailand legal affairs. Senior lawyers shared practical insights into identifying and managing legal risks in bilateral investments, navigating cross-border commercial arbitration, and bridging differences between legal systems. Drawing on years of professional experience and real-case studies, the firm provided concrete strategies for safeguarding the rights and interests of Chinese enterprises operating in Thailand. The engaging dialogue between the students and legal professionals offered the former an immersive understanding of cross-border legal practice.

In addition to the professional itinerary, the group visited Chulalongkorn University, one of Southeast Asia’s top academic institutions, and explored key Thai cultural landmarks such as Wat Arun and the Grand Palace. These visits not only showcased Thailand’s rich architectural and historical heritage but also reflected elements of the country’s traditional judicial culture. Guided tours and first-hand observations enabled participants to appreciate the dynamic fusion of traditional values and modern legal principles, offering fresh perspectives on Thailand’s legal evolution. Throughout the visit, the delegation demonstrated respect for local customs, laws, and religious practices, embodying the civility and global awareness of young Chinese students, and earning recognition from local communities.

This summer camp integrates institutional visits, academic dialogue, and cultural immersio to build a robust platform for cross-border legal education. By stepping beyond the confines of the classroom, students engaged directly with real-world international legal operations, thereby bridging the gap between theory and practice.

The Thailand International Organization Summer Camp marked a successful integration of academic learning, global perspective building, and intercultural exchange. It significantly broadened students’ professional horizons, deepened their appreciation for diverse legal cultures, and laid a solid foundation for their future careers in foreign-related legal practice. It is expected that the participants will leverage the insights and knowledge gained from this experience to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of China's global legal engagement in both academic and professional realms.
